Voice of the Young
Voice of the Young was established in 2002 and is Waterford City's youth council. Young people from secondary schools and youth projects aged 12-18 are invited to attend an annual Youth Conference which will be held on October 4th and at this event 15 young people are elected onto Voice of the Young (Comhairle na nÓg).
Voice of the Young provides a forum for the young people of Waterford to discuss the issues that are of relevance to them and provides an opportunity for them to influence the development of policies that affect young people living in Waterford City. Voice of the Young is funded by the Office of the Minister for Children.
Members of Voice of the Young are also elected to attend Dáil na nÓg. Dáil na nÓg provides an opportunity for the young people of Ireland to represent the views of all Irish youth at national level and is held annually in Dublin.
Voice of the Young have conducted research on youth facilities in Waterford City, produced a Directory of Youth Services, hosted a Political Speed Dating event with local Councillors and had the opportunity to participate in the Tall Ships Race and European Exchanges.
