Strategic Focus of Waterford CDB

Following on from the establishment of the Waterford CDB, executive recommendations were made for the improvement of the workings of the CDB locally.  It was agreed that the CDB will focus on the development of neighbourhood strategies which will be focused by two overarching themes which will be implemented at executive committee level.  The two overarching themes are:

  1. Co-ordination of public services.
  2. Promoting Waterford as a "Gateway City".

  1. Co-ordination of public services
This will involve a review of all local agency plans on an annual basis to identify strategic opportunities to co-ordinate public services on a city wide and on a neighbourhood level.  Based on this review the Executive will make recommendations to the CDB on potential areas to improve the co-ordination of public services and who/ what structure should undertake this role which will be discussed by the CDB.

  2. Waterford as a Gateway City
  3. This will primarily have an economic focus but will also take into consideration transportation and tourism.  The role of the objective will be to ensure that there is a focus on 2/3 key priorities from the National Spatial Strategy.

The development of Sustainable Neighbourhood Strategies

In line with the Waterford City Council Development Plan, it is intended that the CDB will also have a neighbourhood focus and work to ensure that there is a Sustainable Neighbourhood Strategy for each of the seven neighbourhoods in Waterford City.  A Neighbourhood Strategy will incorporate the Local Area Plan which will concentrate on the physical infrastructure and the community/social strategy for the neighbourhood resulting from a local area needs analysis which will focus on the community facilities/ needs.
